Representation Matters So Much

Representation Matters So Much

I can’t believe this package from @mattel and @barbie arrived on Kolbie’s 5-year Diaversary. It feels like such a full-circle moment—one that reminds me how far she has come and how much strength she carries in her little body.

Five years ago, we were thrown into a world we knew nothing about. A world of needles, carb counting, alarms, and so many unknowns. But Kolbie has never let diabetes define her. She meets every challenge with bravery, grace, and a smile that somehow makes it all feel a little less heavy. She doesn’t just manage her diabetes—she owns her story and shares it so others can feel seen, understood, and less alone.

I’m so proud of the way she has turned something so hard into something that empowers her and inspires others. Watching her grow into the person she is today has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.

Receiving this Barbie today feels so meaningful. Representation matters so much. For every kid who has ever wished their diagnosis didn’t make them feel different—for every parent who has prayed their child would feel seen and celebrated—this is such a powerful step. Thank you, @mattel, for honoring the reality of what so many kids live with and for helping them feel proud of exactly who they are.
